Bikepacking Bandwagon at Eurobike

Eurobike 2018 Coverage: Bicycle Touring, Bikepacking and Adventure Gallery

I have to admit, when the EuroBike Show opens it’s very interesting to see all the new products that are up and coming for winter and summer seasons. Years ago when I started bike packing with my bike bags, there were only a few hardcore small companies that everyone would purchase from including myself.

After seeing the last article on EuroBike, it now seems everyone is making bike bags for everything,
and just slapping their name on it! Hopefully to catch up with everyone else who did it for the passion of adventure and the places it could take them. I myself have seen the same with the winter sports market. A while back there were no Fat-Bikes & E-Bikes and now everyone who makes bikes is jumping aboard to claim their place among what was thought to be something that would go no place in the industry! Look at the Fat Bike, everyone laughed at first. Many years ago people who originally started wanted to go further and be adventurous
by configuring all types of ways to make a bigger rim or combine two wheels together for more traction in the snow. From that came many races to push your physical limits!

Well take another page from the industry and wait until someone else does it and tell them it’s going no place, as the mainstream big wigs wait quietly for one of the other big players to jump aboard and see what happens.

We all know that answer, everyone is making big tire bikes from kids bikes, adult bikes, balance bikes, you name it!

My point for all in this is simple, the adventurous spirit which drives us to invent or pursue a better way to get into the backcountry will eventually get commercialized and lose what it has meant to us. Like myself and many others we will always keep that flame burning for adventure and not worry about what the latest trade show or magazine says! In the end it’s not about the money, but our likemindedness to explore, limited at the start by others who devalue our passion for life and adventure, by valuing profit above the adventure, then flooding the market to make a dollar on the passions not valued by them before.

Thanks to all the pioneers who actually cared about pushing forward in the outdoors to seek life and push the limits to learn and grow. From which can only be done by our own strength and damn passion from being outside!
Just some crazy thoughts from a guy who invented skis for bikes so I could have some fun in the backcountry and get away from all the crowds!! Oh and they also fit bike-trailers and wheelchairs, crazy I know right? See you outside sometime!
